Stainless Steel Sheet - Foil (316L - hard) ca.100 x 1000mm

Technical Information - Stainless Steel 316L

  • cold-rolled, rust-resistant Spring Steel 316L
  • cold-rolled, rust-resistant Steel 316L annealed

Basic information and applications 316L

Due to the addition of molybdenum of 2.0 to 2.5% and an increased nickel content of over 10%, this material is very good corrosion-resistant and suitable for applications in the food industry as well as environmental and partly in medical technology.

Further application examples: welded endless belts, conveyor belts in a corrosive environment

The material 316L is approved as spring material according to DIN 17 224 (new: DIN EN 10 151).

Delivery condition hard rolled

Structure: cold-rolled (austenitic with small proportions of forming martensite), not hardenable
Surface: 2H, roughness Ra maximum 0.3 µm (impression of the work roll)
Tensile strength: 1100 to approx. 1300 N / mm²

The tensile strength can be increased by tempering the steel at 330-370 ° C (about 4 hours) by about 100 N / mm² (depending on the original strength of the material).

Delivery condition soft annealed

Structure: purely austenitic
Surface: 2B or 2R, roughness Ra maximum 0.3 µm (impression of the work roll)
Tensile strength: 500-800 N / mm²

Tolerances

Thickness tolerance: DIN EN 9445 table 1
Width tolerance: according to DIN EN 9445
Straightness: normal
Flatness: wave height max. 1.0 mm

Further mechanical information

Yield strength Rp0.2: dependent on tensile strength
Elongation A 80: depending on the tensile strength

The following values apply to the hard-rolled version:

With good edge processing after cutting (e.g. by surface grinding), the fatigue strength is about 35% of the tensile strength, with a bend perpendicular to the rolling direction.

Because the fatigue strength depends on various factors such as the ambient conditions and the edge properties, no values can be guaranteed.

Depending on the load, the highest application temperature is between 120 and 250 ° C (cf. DIN 17224 - spring band made of stainless steel). Please note that the elastic modulus values decrease with increasing temperature.

Modulus of elasticity: 180 000 MPa at 20°C
Relative permeability µr: usually less than 1.02 in the annealed condition (at 200H) - significantly higher in the hard-rolled condition, but less than in the material 1.4310 (cf. there)

Processing information 316L

Punching: stainless steel 316Lis easy to punch. When annealed, this material can even be deep drawn due to the high nickel content of over 10%.

Laser cutting: The material can be laser cut very well.

Etching: The material 316L is very easy to etch.

Bending in the hard-rolled state: Since the strength of the material is achieved through the cold forming during rolling, the rolling direction has a major influence on the bending.

Bending transversely (perpendicular) to the rolling direction:

to 0,25 mm 2,5 x t
0,25 - 0,50 mm 3,0 x t
0,50 - 075 mm 4,5 x t
0,75 - 1,00 mm not recommended

 t = thickness

Bending lengthways (parallel) to the rolling direction:

to 0,25 mm 8,0 x t
0,25 - 0,50 mm 11,0 x t
0,50 - 0,75 mm 14,0 x t
0,75 - 1,00 mm not recommended

 t = thickness

Bending in the annealed condition: Due to the high nickel content of more than 10%, the material 316L can be folded and annealed very well in the annealed condition.

Surface grinding: 316L has a purely austenitic structure in the annealed condition and is therefore not magnetizable.
In the hard-rolled state, material 316L is only weakly magnetizable and cannot be clamped on magnetic chucks of grinding machines.

Welding: Like other austenitic, stainless steels, very easy to weld. At the weld seam, the heat input in the hard-rolled state can lead to a structural change that reduces the strength there.
Due to the very low carbon content of max. On the material side, corrosion of the weld seam is not expected.

Chemical resistance 316L

Assignment in group 5 of the stainless steel table to the chemical resistance of stainless steels (see www.nirosta.de/Publications). This material is therefore more resistant to corrosion than materials 1.4310 (group 4) and materials 1.4034 and 1.4031Mo, both of which are in group 1. Nirosta is a registered trademark of TyssenKrupp AG.

Please check there or through a test whether the material 1.4404 is sufficient is stable for your application. The material 1.4529 is available for very corrosive environments (in hard-rolled condition in thicknesses of 0.05-0.50mm and in soft condition in thicknesses of 0.15-0.50mm)

Bronze Foil - Bronze Sheet Bronze is an alloy of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn). A distinction is made between wrought and cast alloys depending on the processing. Typical application examples are connectors, contact pins, as well as general stamped and bent parts and springs, where good electrical conductivity is necessary In contrast to brass, bronze can also be used in vacuum technology. Properties material CW452K - 2.1020 The bronze alloy CW452K - also called two-alloy - is the most frequently used type of bronze with a tin content of approx. 6%. The alloy CW452K is characterized by a particularly favorable combination of cold formability, strength and hardness. In addition, bronze is very corrosion and wear-resistant as well as seawater-resistant and has good tinnability. Technical information Bronze cannot be magnetized and therefore cannot be clamped on grinding machines. Bronze plates can be laser cut well and are very easy to etch. CuSn6 is easy to weld with all processes. However, the heat input at the weld seam can lead to a structural change that reduces the strength. Bronze is very suitable for soft soldering. The high strength of the bronze plates or the material is achieved by cold forming during rolling. Therefore, the direction of rolling has a great influence on bending. Product information "Stainless Steel Sheet - Foil (316L - hard) ca.100 x 1000mm"

This stainless steel or spring band steel is very corrosion-resistant due to an addition of molybdenum and an increased nickel content and is suitable for use in the food industry as well as in the environment and medical technology.

The material 1.4404 is very easy to weld like other austenitic stainless steels. The heat input in the hard-rolled state can lead to a vascular change at the weld seam, which reduces the strength there.

Other uses/properties:

  • Welded endless belts
  • Conveyor belts in a corrosive environment
  • can be easily punched
  • can be deep-drawn (in the annealed state)
  • very well etchable
  • Slightly magnetizable
