This uncured carbon steel is easy to harden and is very well suited for springs and wearing parts to which no claims regarding corrosion are made.
The material 1075 can be magnetised and can therefore be clamped very well on magnetic clamping plates of grinding machines.
With a high carbon content of about 0.75%, this carbon steel should not be welded.
Unalloyed steels must be protected against corrosion by an oil film. Permanently, these steels can withstand corrosion by tinning, galvanizing or painting.

Stanzen
In ungehärtetem Zustand ist der Werkstoff 1.1248 sehr gut stanz- und umformbar. Der Schneidspalt sollte etwa 10 % der Banddicke entsprechen. Die Eckradien sollten mindestens 0,25 und der Lochstempeldurchmesser mindestens das Zweifache der Banddicke betragen. Nach dem Stanzen können die Teile zum Abbau von Spannungen wärmebehandelt werden bei einer Temperatur von maximal 250 °C und einer Dauer von ca. 30-60 Minuten. Bei Stanzteilen ist ein Nachbehandeln durch Gleitschleifen zur Erzielung einer guten Dauerfestigkeit notwendig.
