Mechanical details
Yield strength Rp0.2: >500 N/mm² at R550
Elongation A 80: no fixation at R550
With good edge processing after cutting (e.g. by surface grinding) the following values can be achieved:
Flexural fatigue strength (medium stress = 0):
The bending fatigue strength of 2.0321 is about 1/3 of the tensile strength Rm (for a bend perpendicular to the rolling direction).
Tension threshold stress (minimum stress = 0):
no information available. However, the maximum values are below the value of the fatigue strength (see also material 1.4310).
Because the fatigue strength depends on various factors such as the ambient conditions and the edge properties, no values can be guaranteed.
In the case of heavy loads or bends that are not perpendicular to the rolling direction, hardened steels such as 1.1274 or 1.4031Mo (rust-resistant) must be used.

Processing Information CW508L
Punching: This material is very easy to punch. For stamped parts, post-treatment by slide grinding is necessary to achieve good fatigue strength.
Laser cutting: Can only be cut with solid-state lasers.
Etching: brass CW508L is easily etchable.
Bending: Since the high strength of the material is achieved through cold forming during rolling, the rolling direction has a major influence on bending.
Bending transversely (perpendicular) to the rolling direction:
| 410-490 | 480-560 | 550-640 | >630 N/mm² | |
| to 0,50 mm | approx. 0,5 x t | approx. 0,75 x t | approx. 1,0 x t |
approx. 2,0 x t |
| 0,50-1,00 mm | no specified | no specified | no specified | no specified |
t = thickness
Bending lengthways (parallel) to the rolling direction:
| 410-490 | 480-560 | 550-640 |
>630 N/mm² |
|
| to 0,50 mm | approx. 0,5 x t | approx. 0,5 x t | approx. 2,0 x t | approx. 6,0 x t |
| 0,50 - 1,00 mm | no specified | no specified | no specified | no specified |
t = thickness
The recommended minimum bending radius also depends on the tensile strength.
Surface grinding: This material cannot be magnetized and cannot be clamped on magnetic chucks of grinding machines.
Welding & Soldering: Due to the low evaporation temperature of the zinc (906 ° C) the brass is less suitable for welding.
Brazing and soft soldering is very possible with this material.
Corrosion resistance CW508L
Brass is well resistant to most organic liquids, water and water vapor as well as various salt solutions. However, if the chloride content is high, there may be corrosion due to "dezincification".
