Various international names for carbon steel 1075

As an unhardened carbon steel, the material 1075 is still used and traded today under various, sometimes outdated, names. The name according to the German standard is 1075 C75S+QT. In the past, C steel was also referred to as CK75 in this country. The material number according to AISI for this carbon steel is 1075. According to ASTM, the steel is listed under the designation G 10750. The English, French and Japanese standards refer to the material as 75 (B.S. 5770 Part 1), XC 75 respectively. as C75 C CSP (Norm G 4802).

C steel unhardened 1075 - the material composition

In order to be able to optimally estimate the properties and thus the processing options, it is important that you know the material composition. Carbon steel 1.1248 contains 0.70 to 0.80 percent carbon, 0.15 to 0.30 percent silicon, 0.30 to 0.45   percent manganese and a maximum of 0.02 percent each of phosphorus and sulfur. The chromium content of this carbon steel is approximately 0.01 percent. If necessary, we are able to document the composition of each individual batch of carbon steel 1075 using a factory certificate according to DIN 10 204.

Can be used hardened or unhardened

As an unhardened C steel, 1075 can be used, among other things, for springs and wear parts without any requirements for corrosion resistance. However, if necessary, this carbon steel can be easily hardened and is therefore suitable for numerous other applications. For storage, the carbon steel should be protected from corrosion by an oil film. Due to the high carbon content, carbon steel is only very suitable for welding to a limited extent and should be avoided if possible. An improvement in the corrosion resistance of carbon steel 1075 can be achieved, among other things, by tinning, galvanizing or painting.
